Fortnite modes shutting down after Epic layoffs hits harder than expected

Epic Games is making some tough cuts, and players are already feeling it. Following a wave of layoffs led by CEO Tim Sweeney, three modes inside Fortnite are being shut down.

The biggest hits come next month. Fortnite Ballistic and Fortnite Festival Battle Stage will both go offline on April 16, 2026. These modes never quite found a strong player base, and now they are being retired early.

Rocket Racing will last a bit longer, but it is still on the way out, with a shutdown planned for October 2026.

What Fortnite modes shutting down means for players

From next week, Rocket Racing quests will disappear, and its track-building template will be removed. That said, your cars are safe, and customisation stays in the main game.

Epic Games says these modes simply did not grow enough. It is a blunt reason, but not surprising in today’s live-service space.

There is a small upside. UEFN tools are staying, and even improving. Players can still build FPS maps and racing experiences, with new tools like car physics and track systems coming soon.

So while official modes are going, player creativity is not.
