Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is already making waves on PlayStation consoles, but Xbox players might have something to look forward to in the future. While the game hasn’t yet landed on Microsoft’s consoles, game director Naoki Hamaguchi recently shared thoughts that spark hope for a wider release of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy.
The desire for a bigger audience
Speaking at the Golden Joystick Awards, Hamaguchi explained his team’s vision. Although there were no announcements about Xbox releases, he stressed their goal for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is to reach as many players as possible. He expressed the desire to create an environment where more people can experience these iconic games.
“We want to look in that direction,” he said, hinting that the team is exploring ways to make the trilogy available to a broader audience.
Shifting away from exclusivity
Square Enix, the studio behind the Final Fantasy franchise, seems to be rethinking platform exclusivity. In recent years, the company has made older PlayStation-exclusive games available on other platforms, including PC and Switch. Hamaguchi suggested this is part of a larger trend in the gaming industry.
He explained that with so many different platforms available, it’s becoming harder for any single console to dominate. “It is no longer possible to release a game on a single platform and get most of the players wanting to play such a game on that single platform,” he said.
Interestingly, Hamaguchi also revealed that he owns an Xbox console and praised it as a “great hardware platform.” This comment adds weight to the possibility of seeing Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on Xbox in the future.
The trilogy’s final chapter is in progress
While fans wait for news about potential Xbox releases of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and other games in the series, Hamaguchi’s team is already working hard on the third and final part of the remake trilogy. The story and concept for the last game are already finished, and development is underway.
With the second chapter (Final Fantasy VII Rebirth) released earlier this year, the final game might not be far behind. Fans of Cloud Strife and his friends can look forward to an epic conclusion.
What this means for gamers
Hamaguchi’s comments give hope to Xbox players eager to experience the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy. If Square Enix continues to open up its games to more platforms, it could mark a turning point for the series, bringing its rich storytelling and iconic gameplay to a wider audience.
For now, fans will have to wait and see if these hints turn into official announcements. One thing is clear: the team is keen to share their beloved series with as many players as possible.
