Eidos Montreal is cutting 124 employees in what marks the studio’s fourth round of layoffs since March 2025, a sobering milestone for one of Canada’s most established development houses.
Eidos Montreal cites changing project needs
The studio announced the “reduction in workforce” via LinkedIn on Monday, citing “changing project needs and impacts across production and support teams” as the driving force behind the decision.

“We are deeply grateful to the team members impacted; this decision is not a reflection of their talent, dedication, or performance,” the studio said, adding that supporting those affected “with care and respect” remains its priority.
Studio head also out the door
Alongside the 124 departures, studio head David Anfossi is also leaving Eidos Montreal. The studio confirmed a transition plan is underway, with new leadership details to follow.
It’s a significant blow to a studio already battered by repeated cuts. Eidos Montreal had been actively developing several projects at the time of the announcement, including a new Alien game, though the current status of those titles remains unclear.
The gaming industry’s ongoing wave of restructuring shows little sign of slowing, and Eidos Montreal‘s situation is a stark reminder of just how volatile development pipelines have become, even for studios with storied histories.
