Dragon Age: The Veilguard Breaks New Records on Steam for BioWare and EA

Dragon Age: The Veilguard launched just a few hours ago, but it has already set impressive new records on Steam. This latest game in the Dragon Age series from BioWare and Electronic Arts (EA) saw 70,000 players on Steam at the same time. This is the highest number of concurrent players for any BioWare game on the platform. For comparison, Mass Effect Legendary Edition, released in May 2021, previously held the record with a peak of 59,800 concurrent players.

For a while, EA avoided releasing games on Steam, choosing instead to publish them on its own platforms, Origin and the EA app. As a result, some popular EA games, like Anthem, never appeared on Steam right away. By the time EA started releasing games on Steam again, Anthem had already lost much of its popularity. Some fans believe Anthem might have attracted more players if it had launched on Steam initially.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard has also set a new record as EA’s most-played single-player game on Steam, even considering EA’s past publishing choices. The game surpassed Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, which reached a peak of 67,800 concurrent players. One exception here is The Sims 4, a single-player game that hit 96,300 concurrent players on Steam, but it’s free to play. Dragon Age: The Veilguard could potentially reach this number over the weekend, as weekend days often bring more players online.

Early feedback from players has been positive as well. About 79% of the 3,610 player reviews posted so far are favorable. This shows strong early support from fans, which is promising for the game’s future. Andrew Wilson, the CEO of EA, recently said he believes the game could become a big success.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard launch has been a major milestone, not only for fans of the series but also for EA and BioWare, setting a new high for player interest. With more people expected to try the game over the weekend, the numbers may rise even further, possibly breaking even more records for the publisher.
