Destiny 2’s next major update has reportedly been pushed back, and the timing is not accidental.
According to Forbes’ Paul Tassi, Destiny 2: Shadow & Order is no longer launching on March 3 as originally planned. The delay follows Bungie officially confirming the release date for Marathon, its upcoming extraction shooter set to arrive in early March. At the time of writing, there is no new release window for the Destiny update.

Shadow & Order was expected to be the final major update of the Year of Prophecy season. This season began with the Rite of the Nine in-game event back in May 2025 and was meant to close out this chapter of Destiny 2 with a free content drop.
Destiny 2 marketing heats up with Marathon crossover
With Marathon moving into its main marketing phase, Bungie appears to be shifting attention away from Destiny, at least for now. Players who pre-order Marathon can unlock new Destiny cosmetics, including Ships and Sparrows.
There are also new shaders, emotes, and themed items celebrating the upcoming launch. While the crossover content is a nice bonus, Destiny players will have to wait a little longer to see how the Year of Prophecy truly ends.
