Destiny update delayed: Destiny 2: Shadow and Order now targeting June

Fans waiting for the next big Destiny 2 update will need a little more patience. Bungie has confirmed that Destiny 2: Shadow and Order is now planned for 9 June 2026 instead of its earlier window.

Shadow and Order delay is mostly about polish

The Shadow and Order delay is about polish rather than problems. The team says large revisions and quality-of-life changes are still in progress. That usually means they want the update to land in better shape, which most players will welcome.

Destiny 2: Shadow and Order Delay confirmed

More details are expected closer to launch. This should include the weapons-tier upgrade already teased, plus other gameplay tweaks. Until then, regular fixes and stability patches will continue through June. Live events are also staying on track, including Guardian Games in March and a stronger Iron Banner rhythm in April.

The delay did not come out of nowhere. Earlier reports suggested timing changes to avoid clashing with Bungie’s upcoming shooter Marathon. Interestingly, both games will connect in small ways. Pre-ordering Marathon brings Destiny 2 players cosmetic rewards like Sparrows, Ships, shaders, and emotes.

For now, the focus is clear: keep the live game active while the expansion gets final touches. If the extra time improves the experience, most Guardians will likely see this delay as worth it.
