Deck of Haunts’ biggest update yet brings creatures, cursed rooms, 25% Steam discount and Xbox demo

The haunted mansion just got scarier. Mantis Games has unleashed the second major free content update for its sinister deckbuilding roguelike Deck of Haunts, live now on Steam. Alongside the PC release, Xbox players can finally get a taste of the terror, too, thanks to a new demo arriving as part of the ID@Xbox Indie Selects Demo Fest.

This update is the game’s most expansive yet, piling on new features that twist strategies and deepen the dread. Hot on the heels of June’s Nightmares & Scythes expansion, the mansion now hosts Creatures, new haunting cards, cursed rooms, fresh intruders, and two additional Starter Decks, all free. And for those yet to step inside, the base game is discounted 25% on Steam until September 22.

The haunted house grows

For the first time, the Deck of Haunts’ mansion feels alive (or undead). Players can now summon Creatures like mischievous Imps using Spawn Cards. These spectral allies add new ability cards to your deck while active, letting you harness their powers directly to torment unwanted guests.

The update also introduces new cards that push creative strategies further. Think Architect’s Toll and Crushing Architecture, which scales with room size, or Unstable Foundation, which can collapse entire approaches in one eerie move.

New rooms, new prey

The mansion expands with fresh cursed chambers, including the Bathroom, where drain effects are doubled, making it the perfect trap for would-be survivors who thought the Weapons Room was safe. Of course, new humans are barging in too, each bringing traits and behaviours designed to disrupt your hauntings.

To help balance the odds, two new Starter Decks offer alternative playstyles: the Creature Starter Deck, which focuses on spectral allies, and the bonus Creative Starter Deck for players who like to bend the mansion’s rules in unexpected ways.

What’s next for Deck of Haunts?

With the mansion swelling with new horrors, Deck of Haunts is in its best shape yet. But Mantis Games isn’t done. Teasing something “sinister” on the horizon, fans may want to keep their eyes peeled for October; rumours suggest a scenario builder could be lurking in the shadows just in time for Halloween.
