Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the most highly anticipated games due for release in 2020. It’s been in development for almost a decade at the time of writing when taking the initial announcement into account. As Cyberpunk 2077 comes from the same studio that brought us The Witcher, it’s expected to include a range of minigames just as that hit fantasy title did.
While the futuristic setting of Cyberpunk 2077 means it’s unlikely to include popular Blackjack games for fans of classic casino experiences, there are plenty of other opportunities for high-tech games to appear in the game’s distinctive environment (known as Night City).
Hacking
Hacking is one of the minigames confirmed to appear in Cyberpunk 2077. It’s believed to be deeper than other hacking-based minigames and will give Cyberpunk 2077 players a more immersive experience of futuristic hacking. It’s an area that has been discussed by the developers a number of times whenever the game has been covered in the press. While the first-person action portion of the game has received the largest amount of hype so far, the hacking element is still something that many gamers are excited to try.
Hacking is probably the most important minigame in Cyberpunk 2077, as it’s likely to unlock a variety of other areas and missions within the game. It’s possible that players who fail at hacking will experience the consequences during the rest of the game.
Slot Machines
We’re highly likely to see slot machines in Cyberpunk 2077. While there are no guarantees at this point, there is a lot of talk that there will be a futuristic version of slots included in the game. The most likely function of this feature will be to offer players the opportunity to earn additional currency, on top of earnings available for completing missions. However, as is usually the case with action RPG games, the slot machines will mostly become just a fun side quest later in the game.
It will be fascinating to see how Cyberpunk 2077 manages to reinvent slot machines for its futuristic world. As the medium has already progressed such a large amount at the time of writing, there could be some extremely exciting variations available to players in Cyberpunk 2077.
Boxing
Boxing is likely to appear in Cyberpunk 2077, too, considering that it’s been spotted in a number of trailers. In fact, the developers have confirmed that the giant robot featured in the very first trailer is an opponent in the boxing minigame. This could have some similarities (in terms of storyline) to the boxing minigame included in Fallout 2, though it’s likely that the minigame will be significantly more detailed. It’s unlikely to be on a par with a dedicated boxing game, but it’s still expected to have enough detail to make it an enjoyable aspect of Cyberpunk 2077.
With the game still a way off from being released, there is a lot of potential for some surprises to be revealed between now and Cyberpunk 2077’s release. The future setting of the game gives the developers an almost unlimited scope when it comes to minigames. One thing is for certain: Cyberpunk 2077 looks like it could be the game of the year when it’s released.
