Cronos: The New Dawn native Steam Deck build delivers big performance upgrade

Cronos: The New Dawn has just levelled up on the Steam Deck. A brand-new native build has dropped, and it’s a big win for handheld players.

A fresh comparison from Deck Wizard shows the survival-horror title running far better than before. The original Proton Windows build often struggled, especially in demanding spots like the Apartment Complex. Now, the native version pushes above 30 FPS in most areas, where the Proton build barely held the line.

Cronos The New Dawn Steam Deck build performance

Don’t expect a locked 60 FPS. The Steam Deck simply can’t pull that off with a game like this. But the boost is clear. With its slower pace and heavy focus on atmosphere, Cronos: The New Dawn doesn’t need blistering frame rates to deliver. At 30 FPS, the tension still hits hard, making it one of Bloober Team’s strongest releases yet.

This move also signals a welcome trend. Native Steam Deck builds are still fairly new, but they’re proving their worth. They’re not only squeezing more out of Valve’s handheld but also extending its shelf life in the process.

It’s not just Cronos either. Baldur’s Gate 3 has also gained its own Steam Deck native build, cleaning up performance in Act 3’s demanding city areas.

For Deck owners, the future looks sharper, smoother, and far more stable.
