Borderlands 4’s first story DLC finally gets a release date with a new Vault Hunter

Gearbox has finally confirmed the Borderlands 4 Story Pack 1 release date, and players won’t have to wait long. The first major DLC, Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned, launches on March 26, 2026.

Earlier in the year, Gearbox shared a roadmap outlining upcoming updates, but it only listed rough Q1, Q2, and Q3 windows. Now the first big expansion has a proper launch date, and it is bringing a fair amount of new content with it.

The Borderlands 4 story pack introduces a fresh campaign set in a brand-new area called the Whispering Glacier. The narrative will follow Ellie, joined by a new playable Vault Hunter named C4SH. The character will also be usable across the main game and other DLC areas once unlocked.

A full gameplay reveal for C4SH is scheduled for March 16, giving players a closer look before launch.

Borderlands 4 Story Pack 1 adds new bosses, loot, and a fresh zone

The Whispering Glacier zone will include new story missions, side missions, activities, and collectibles. Combat will also ramp up, with two major boss fights, 15 miniboss encounters, and a new enemy type.

To keep up with the tougher fights, the DLC adds three Pearlescent weapons and eleven new Legendary items, including weapons, gear, and class mods. Players will also find 28 new cosmetic items to customise their Vault Hunters.

One more feature arriving with the update is shared progression. Characters on the same account will share map progress, SDU tokens, Hover Drives, cosmetics, and activity completion.

Cross-platform saves, however, will arrive later in a future update.
