A new Battlefield 6 gameplay leak has revealed the return of a fan-favourite detail – mud and dirt buildup on weapons.
The short clip, spotted on the r/Battlefield subreddit and traced back to Battlefield Labs, shows a player pinned down under ruins as enemy fire sends debris crashing down. Their once-clean gun ends up completely coated in mud, with a before-and-after shot proving just how grimy things can get.
Fans react to the return of mud buildup in Battlefield 6
This feature last appeared in earlier entries but was missing from Battlefield 2042. Fans are already buzzing about the return, with some suggesting the devs should push it further by adding gun jams if weapons get completely clogged. On top of that, the OP confirmed that another layer of immersion – blood splatters will now appear on weapons when you’re hit.

It’s not the only recent update. DICE also revealed how the new Assault Ladder works in-game and noted that a large number of players are running the game on minimum spec setups.
There’s this leaked Mirak Valley footage, a big U.S. map for Season 1, and now mud-covered weapons; it’s clear Battlefield 6 is leaning heavily into gritty realism. And fans seem ready to get dirty.
