Are you ready to tumble into Wonderland with Alice, again? Epic Scale Games has secured the rights to develop a cooperative dice placement game based on the fantasy novel Automated Alice (Crown Publishers; ISBN 978-0-517-70490-5) by author Jeff Noon. The game will launch on Kickstarter on September 15.

Written as a “trequel” that follows Lewis Carroll’s popular heroine from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland (1865) and Through the Looking-Glass (1871). In this more recent instalment, originally published in 1996, Alice and her doll, Celia, trying to retrieve her Great Aunt Ermintrude’s escaped parrot, Whippoorwill, take an unlikely spill through a grandfather clock and find themselves travelling through time. They emerge in an alternate modern Wonderland in the form of Manchester England circa 1998. In this Wonderland, however, outsider Alice encounters a whole new world of imaginative characters including her transformed doll – now the titular Automated Alice, and a host of Newmonians – human-animal hybrids, plus storied favourites including vanishing felines, as she is named a prime suspect in a series of “Jigsaw Murders” and is tasked with solving them to clear her name in order to return home before time runs out.

Epic Scale Games is thrilled to have secured the rights to develop a signature multiplayer game based on the incredibly inventive and popular cult novel, Automated Alice. For more than 150 years, the character of Alice and her curious quests have inspired audiences of all ages. We’re looking forward to bringing this tale to life with a stunningly illustrated fast-paced tabletop game that pays homage to the beloved storybook legacy.

Robb De Nicola, founder of Epic Scale Games.

In Epic Scale Games’ Automated Alice, players collectively take on the role of Alice while trying to match colored dice to specific goals listed on the evidence cards. Watch out for Mrs. Minus and her Civil Serpent dice, as they will try to block your path. Perk cards and unique character abilities will help on her journey. With multiple lose conditions like the Civil Serpent Threat Tracker, limited round timer or running out of assets, this will not be an easy task.

Automated Alice backers can choose different pledge levels of support. The campaign will also offer an abundance of coveted extras in the form of stretch goals based on funding and social media milestones.
