SEGA announce Sonic Mania and Project Sonic 2017 updates

Sonic has come a long way since it’s very first game release back in 1991; I still have fond memories of playing the original on my Megadrive. Since that release, we’ve been introduced to some of Sonic’s best friends as well as seeing the game series evolve over the years, from a 2D sidescrolling platformer into competing at the Olympics alongside Mario.

Well, the next developments in Sonic’s prestigious history are underway, and SEGA were at SXSW to share their plans for the future.  First up we have Sonic Mania; due for release this summer on all major formats including the new Nintendo Switch, the panel at SXSW released some cool looking artwork, a few teasers and the first-ever unboxing of the Collector’s Edition. There was a lot for gamers to get excited about.

But the bigger news was in relation to Project Sonic 2017, which was finally given an official title, Sonic Forces. The reveal also included a sample of the theme music and the first glimpses of the game in public, which we’re happy to share with you below.

If you’re interested in finding out more about either of these games, you can follow Sonic on Facebook and Twitter for all the latest developments.
