Full Sync's resident PC gamer and reviews editor. I came here to drink coffee and avoid confrontation - and I'm all out of coffee.

We all have favourite games; fond memories of classics such as James Pond and Streets of Rage from consoles past, and new favourites such as Halo and The Last of Us which we like to revisit from time to time. Few games have managed to keep my attention though quite like Destiny, I mean it has been over two years now and I still find myself playing on a regular basis. Why this is I don’t know; maybe it’s the social aspect of adventuring with friends, maybe it’s the number of DLC that have been released to keep the game fresh or maybe I just have nothing better to do.

Anyway, tomorrow Bungie launches its latest event on Destiny, The Dawning; a celebration welcoming in the new year that will see the tower decorated like never before. It’s a party that all players who have purchased Rise of Iron are invited to and you can expect gifts and games that encourage a season of healthy competition. The event will run from December 13th right through to January 3rd, and as with any event, it will introduce new challenges, gear, quests and weapons; but what else can Guardians expect from this latest update?

Well firstly, and personally the part I’m most looking forward to, we’ll see the long-awaited return of the Icebreaker with updated Light Levels. Yes, it’s been a long time coming but finally, Bungie has decided to bring back possibly the most OP gun in the game with its infinite supply of ammo. It’ll be no easy task though Guardians, because before you can get your hands on that sweet piece, you’ll first have to complete Commander Zavala’s new Nightfall Bounty.

The first of the two new tracks is Haakon Precipice which takes place on a steep mountain pass previously used by Iron Lords. The second new course is Shining Sands, a twisty track on Mercury, but be careful as it’s overrun by Vex. This isn’t the most exciting news about SRL though, as Sparrow Racing looks to become a permanent fixture to Destiny becoming available for private matches once The Dawning Concludes.

The Dawning doesn’t just see the return of lots of old stuff though it also brings with it a brand new feature; Strike Scoring. Yep, you can now test your skills and challenge friends in the Vanguard Elite Strike Scoring playlist where you will rack up scores and collect medals to compete for that number one spot. It will essentially work in the same way as the crucible, rewarding you for things like healing Guardians and getting triple kills, and obviously te better you do the higher your score will be.

So yeah, lots to be looking forward to and I can’t wait to get stuck into the Dawning tomorrow. After starting the Halloween event and getting distracted by life away from my Playstation, I really want to make the most of this one and it should be fun teaming up with fellow Full Sync Gaming staff member Chris. Who knows, maybe we’ll even stream a little so make sure you follow us both on twitter in case we announce it @OhMyJosh90 and @KriiCamilleri92.

And to finish, just a small recap of what The Dawning is going to bring Guardians this month:

  • New Challenges
  • New Gear
  • New Quests
  • New Sparrows
  • New Weapons
  • Return of the Icebreaker
  • Return of the Sparrow Racing League with two new tracks, here to stay permanently after The Dawning concludes.
  • Strike Scoring
